Role Summary
The Assistant Director of Leadership Annual Giving – Alumni Relations leads alumni giving strategies, manages a leadership annual giving (LAG) portfolio, and builds donor pipelines through direct and digital outreach. The role partners with development leaders, alumni chapters, advisory councils, and campus stakeholders to plan campaigns, steward donors, and ensure compliance with university policies for receiving donations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement alumni annual and long-term giving strategies that build affinity and philanthropic awareness.
- Manage a leadership annual giving portfolio and donor pipeline; set metrics, track results, and increase participation and retention.
- Execute multi-channel cultivation and solicitation (events, direct mail, email, text, and digital) with clear stewardship plans.
- Partner with Directors of Development, Alumni Relations, alumni chapters, the Alumni Relations Advisory Board, the GOLD Council, and campus partners on integrated campaigns.
- Ensure adherence to university policies and best practices for gift acceptance, tracking, and stewardship.
- Coordinate engagement-focused events that support annual giving priorities and alumni involvement.
- Document outreach, solicitations, and stewardship activities to maintain accurate records and donor movement through the pipeline.
- Pursue professional development and collaboration with peers to enhance results and share best practices.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Finance, Communication, Nonprofit Fundraising, Public Relations, English, or related field; or equivalent experience. Two years of relevant experience, or a combination totaling six years.
- Preferred: Experience in development, annual giving, alumni relations, and higher education environments.
- Knowledge of annual fundraising program best practices, alumni engagement, event management, and marketing fundamentals.
- Evidence of professional development or experience in institutional advancement, business, marketing, nonprofit, or higher education settings.
- Proven ability to create, write, edit, and manage direct and digital campaigns (direct mail, email, social media, internet advertising) with measurable gift outcomes.
- Innovative, strategic thinker adept at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced setting with strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills with students, donors, alumni, campus partners, and peers; confident stewardship and collaboration.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented; able to set priorities, take initiative, and meet goals independently.
- Clear, empathetic communicator in written and verbal formats; able to navigate differences professionally and constructively.
- Technical proficiency with donor databases (e.g., Blackbaud Raiser's Edge) and strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables.
Compensation, Location, And Employment
