Optum is hiring an Essential Plan Account Manager to drive growth for government-sponsored health plans across Kings County and Long Island. This field-based role focuses on building relationships with community partners and businesses, educating eligible populations, and enrolling new members while maintaining strong account relationships.

Optum partners with health plans and community organizations to improve access to quality care. In this role, you will support UnitedHealthcare programs—Essential Plan, Medicaid Managed Care, and Child Health Plus—by engaging providers, community-based organizations, small businesses, and other local stakeholders to increase awareness and enrollment.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Sales & Account Management team and collaborating with Business Development, the Account Manager develops new B2B channels and community relationships to drive membership growth. The position is primarily field-based with remote flexibility for candidates within Kings County and Long Island, NY. Expect regular presentations, outreach events, and hands-on enrollment support across diverse verticals such as dental, vision, fitness, colleges, trade schools, and small businesses. Training on all government programs will be provided upon hire.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enroll eligible individuals into UnitedHealthcare’s Essential Plan, Medicaid Managed Care, and Child Health Plus.
  • Retain and grow current membership through proactive account service with provider offices, CBOs, housing partners, and other key accounts.
  • Present plan information to providers, business advocates, and prospective members; close enrollments and ensure a positive experience.
  • Conduct product information sessions in multiple settings; represent the plan at events and community engagements (indoors and outdoors).
  • Own territory goals by meeting or exceeding sales and enrollment targets with minimal supervision.
  • Track activities, leads, appointments, and outcomes daily in internal systems; provide feedback on promotions, benefits, and market opportunities.
  • Stay informed on operations, provider networks, premiums, member services, claims, and related processes to share accurate information with partners and prospects.

Ideal Profile

  • 2+ years in B2B or B2C direct marketing, outside sales, or community outreach.
  • Local travel up to 100% within Kings County and Long Island; ability to work some nights and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving history, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.
  • Comfort presenting to diverse audiences, working independently, and operating effectively in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Preferred: Experience with the New York State health marketplace.

Compensation, Benefits, and Location

This is a full-time, outside/field sales position with remote flexibility for those residing in Kings County and Long Island, NY. The hourly pay range is $19.23 to $38.46 based on full-time employment, with bonuses available based on sales performance. A comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase, and 401(k) contributions are available (subject to eligibility). Remote employees adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy.
