This post outlines the opportunity, ideal fit, and how to apply.

Company Overview

National Journal is a premier research and insights company helping organizations navigate Washington. For nearly 50 years, its journalism and expert teams across government affairs, communications, and political research have equipped leaders with the intelligence, analysis, and connections to save time, increase efficiency, and achieve outcomes.

Role Summary

As Associate Director, Growth Marketing & Operations, you will manage full-funnel campaigns from concept to conversion, elevate marketing operations, and enable data-driven decision-making. You’ll collaborate with digital, events, creative, and revenue teams to launch new products, generate qualified demand, optimize conversion paths, and maintain best-in-class automation, analytics, and reporting across the stack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive online sales via targeted digital campaigns and conversion-rate optimization across the buying journey.
  • Lead full-funnel launches: plan, ideate, develop assets, execute, and report performance for new products and themes.
  • Build lead-generation programs through bottom-of-funnel engagement and online conversion tactics.
  • Write and edit copy; build and deploy emails and landing pages in Marketo or similar; create and optimize web-ready graphics.
  • Partner with Brand and Creative on social, collateral, and sales enablement resources; support internal communications planning.
  • Manage distribution lists, segmentation, subscription preferences, and trigger campaigns for clients and prospects.
  • Apply email best practices for timing, subject lines, formatting, deliverability, and continuous testing.
  • Own marketing automation (Marketo/HubSpot) and CRM integrations (Salesforce); troubleshoot, maintain, and advise on enhancements.
  • Optimize conversion paths (landing pages, forms); run A/B tests; set up nurtures, scoring, and sales handoff workflows.
  • Create dashboards for performance and multi-touch attribution; maintain database hygiene and compliance (CAN-SPAM, EAA).
  • Support webinars, events, outbound air cover, and product delivery (newsletters, templates, troubleshooting send issues).
  • Develop weekly and monthly reports on email and web analytics; audit and resolve data integrity issues.

Ideal Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4–7 years in full-funnel B2B marketing, lead generation, e-commerce, and growth strategy.
  • Entrepreneurial builder with a track record taking initiatives from concept to execution at speed and quality.
  • Deep understanding of demand creation and conversion; uses data to inform targeting, messaging, and channel mix.
  • Hands-on with Marketo and HubSpot; familiarity with Salesforce and marketing-to-sales handoff best practices.
  • Email and digital channel expertise: personalization, template design, CTAs, deliverability, and subject line optimization.
  • Proficient with A/B testing, KPI analysis, and Google Analytics; comfortable deriving actionable insights from data.
  • Ability to troubleshoot workflows, attribution logic, and reporting to maintain data integrity and clarity.
  • Strong project management, organization, and attention to detail; effective communicator who hits deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Creative, resourceful problem-solver with a collaborative mindset; interest in policy and politics is a plus.
  • Comfortable using generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) to increase velocity and quality.
  • Aligned with a service-oriented, generous culture that values rigor, insight, and intellectual honesty.

Compensation, Location, And Schedule

Employment Type: Full-time. Salary: USD $70,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Location: Washington, DC. Schedule: Hybrid; in-office Tuesday–Thursday. Start Date: Available immediately. National Journal is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
