Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is hiring an Executive Director, Marketing and Communications to lead institution-wide brand, communications, and enrollment marketing. This full-time, in-person role in Milwaukee, WI, oversees integrated marketing, digital strategy, media relations, and special events to strengthen the College’s reputation and support student success.

Role Summary

Reporting to senior leadership, the Executive Director provides strategic direction for marketing, communications, and public relations. The leader will advance MATC’s brand, manage college-wide messaging, drive enrollment-focused campaigns, and serve as Public Information Officer for media and crisis communications. The role includes oversight of digital platforms, advertising, and a high-performing team delivering value-added services across the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual marketing and communications plan and budget aligned to the College’s strategic plan.
  • Lead brand management, public relations, and media relations; act as primary Public Information Officer and oversee crisis communications planning and response.
  • Oversee digital and social media strategy; direct multi-channel advertising for recruitment and image, including TV, outdoor, radio, digital, mobile, social, and print.
  • Lead special events planning to advance strategic objectives and deliver professional, cost-effective experiences.
  • Partner with academic and student services leaders to drive enrollment growth and support student success via targeted communications.
  • Build and manage a high-performing team; hire, coach, and conduct performance management across a matrixed environment.
  • Manage departmental budgets and ensure fiscal alignment with division and institutional goals.
  • Monitor higher education and demographic trends to inform strategy; maintain strong knowledge of College priorities and programs.
  • Set policies and brand standards, including design guidelines and logo usage; ensure consistent application across channels.
  • Engage stakeholders across the Wisconsin Technical College System, business, government, education, and community groups; serve on committees as needed.
  • Provide strategic counsel on issues management and reputation; lead rapid response messaging when required.
  • Promote continuous learning and uphold professional, ethical conduct aligned with MATC’s mission and values.

Ideal Profile

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Mass Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (accredited institution).
  • Seven or more years in communications/marketing/journalism; minimum two years in supervisory or management roles.
  • Expertise in integrated marketing, PR, media relations, and social media; strong writing and storytelling skills.
  • Proven leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and team development within complex organizations.
  • Data-driven approach to campaign measurement and optimization; strong project and budget management skills.
  • Technical proficiency with databases, student information systems, and Microsoft Office Suite; ability to serve diverse stakeholders.

Compensation, Location, And Schedule

Salary: $104,866–$141,572 annually (USD), determined by credited years of experience and internal equity. Job Type: Full-time. Location: Milwaukee, WI. Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, primarily at the Downtown Campus. All work must be conducted within the State of Wisconsin; out-of-state work is prohibited. Start: Available immediately.
