The Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Vice President, Development to partner with the Chief Development Officer on a comprehensive, community-centric fundraising program. Based in Austin, TX with a hybrid schedule (on-site Tuesday–Thursday; remote Mondays and Fridays), this leader will steer annual giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, grants, and donor engagement while managing a high-performing team.

Founded in 1953 and anchored in three counties, the organization has served close to 500,000 people and provided more than $30M in financial assistance over the past decade. The Y operates eight community centers and Camp Moody; six early childhood education centers; 60 afterschool programs across four districts; and 20 summer camps, supported by 1,500 staff and 1,000 volunteers with a $48M annual operating budget.
Role Summary
Reporting to the CDO, the Vice President, Development will lead strategy and execution across annual, individual, corporate, foundation, and planned giving. The role manages a personal portfolio of mid-to-major donors, serves as a strategic bridge between Development and Marketing, collaborates closely with Finance and Operations, and champions a culture of inclusive philanthropy aligned with the Y’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual giving campaign, building cross-functional collaboration with operational leaders across branches.
- Serve as the strategic liaison between Development and Marketing to unify messaging and maximize donor engagement.
- Guide strategy, recruitment, and engagement for Center Advisory Boards; represent Development in board meetings to strengthen local philanthropy.
- Plan and execute capital campaign strategies with personalized stewardship and long-term revenue goals.
- Implement a comprehensive donor stewardship strategy to increase retention and lifetime engagement at every giving level.
- Manage a personal portfolio of mid-to-major donors, cultivating and soliciting high-capacity individuals.
- Provide strategic oversight across corporate giving, grants and foundation relations, and individual/planned giving programs.
- Partner with the CDO on budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation; collaborate with Finance to forecast revenue and inform organizational planning.
- Analyze donor data, campaign performance, and philanthropic trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- Build, coach, and hold a high-performing team accountable; recruit, hire, and develop talent while modeling inclusive leadership.
- Champion a culture of philanthropy across staff, volunteers, and leadership to advance the Y’s mission.
Ideal Profile
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience across annual, major gifts, capital campaigns, and stewardship.
- 3–5 years managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Proven success cultivating and soliciting mid-to-major donors, including six- and seven-figure gifts.
- Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration with Marketing, Finance, and Operations to align fundraising with organizational goals.
- Commitment to inclusive, community-centric fundraising and ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with donors, volunteers, staff, and community leaders.
- Proficiency with fundraising CRM systems and data analytics to guide strategy and evaluate performance.
- Strong fiscal management skills in budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Leadership competencies aligned to the Y’s cause: advancing mission, building relationships, leading operations, and developing people.
Compensation, Benefits, And Location
Compensation: $145,000–$175,000 annually, DOE. The role is based in Austin, TX with on-site work Tuesday–Thursday and remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
