This full-time role partners with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver clear, consistent messaging across channels and support company-wide initiatives.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, the Communications Specialist sets strategic direction and manages day-to-day internal communications. You will develop core messaging, plan channels and content calendars, write and edit internal narratives, support town halls and all-hands, and track performance to continuously improve engagement. The role requires organization, creativity, and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute integrated internal communications initiatives.
  • Partner with departments, project liaisons, and subject-matter experts to align strategies.
  • Develop and refine core messaging for the company and business units.
  • Map and manage channels including email, newsletters, video, and more.
  • Write, edit, and distribute internal communications and employee updates.
  • Maintain consistent style, tone, and brand voice across channels.
  • Measure engagement and performance; recommend data-driven improvements.
  • Proofread and format communications, documents, and meeting materials.
  • Create presentations and talking points for senior leadership.
  • Support company-wide town halls, department all-hands, and employee events.
  • Contribute to special projects and other duties as assigned.

Ideal Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Advertising, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • 3–5 years in internal communications, change management, or employee engagement.
  • Proven experience leading projects, outcomes, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic communications, PR, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Excellence in copywriting, editing, proofreading, and audience-relevant publishing.
  • Operates with strategic thinking, initiative, and a results orientation.
  • Exceptional collaboration skills; able to define shared goals and build consensus.
  • Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and external vendors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint (or similar).
  • Impeccable writing skills with deep knowledge of AP style.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and effective in fast-paced environments.
  • Video production and editing experience is a plus; “can do” and “will do” mindset.

Compensation And Location

Location: Dallas, TX. Schedule: Full-time. Salary range: USD $59,105–$73,374. Forward Air is an Equal Opportunity employer.
