CenterPoint Energy is hiring a full-time Gas Operations Communications Specialist in Minneapolis, MN. This role sits within Communications, Community Relations, and Marketing, partnering closely with operations to inform customers and communities, support construction projects, and strengthen the company’s reputation through clear, timely communication across channels.

Role Summary
This position is for a self-starter who can lead cross-functional collaboration, develop and implement internal and external communication plans, and represent Corporate Communications in the field. You will craft web content, news releases, emails, and customer notifications; coordinate outreach for gas pipeline construction projects; and support emergency response communications on a rotational basis, including occasional after-hours work. The role includes direct engagement with customers and community stakeholders and may serve as a spokesperson during emergency events as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic communications guidance, identify effective tactics, and evaluate results.
- Serve on the emergency response communications team with rotational, after-hours, and weekend coverage as needed; support crisis response at company locations when required.
- Produce and manage content, including web copy, news releases, fact sheets, presentations, speeches, videos, emails, intranet articles, brochures, posters, and digital signage.
- Plan and execute communications for gas pipeline construction projects (web publishing, email, text-to-subscribe tools) and update content as scope and schedules change.
- Develop and implement communication plans with key messages, timing, channels, and analytics for measurement and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Gas Capital Delivery, Engineering, Operations, Local Government Relations, and Customer Service to route and resolve complex customer concerns promptly by phone or in person.
- Build strong relationships across operations leadership, project managers, community relations, and other departments to align messaging and execution.
- Attend internal construction meetings and site visits; draft project descriptions and gauge the scope of ongoing construction projects for proactive communications.
- Continuously improve processes and deliverables; assist with planning, implementation, and maintenance of web content and publishing workflows.
- Collaborate with graphic design, marketing, and social media teams to develop effective materials; provide regional support for company social channels.
- Draft and distribute notifications to customers, city staff, public officials, associations, local newspapers, and media along construction areas.
- Coordinate and attend public open houses, community meetings, and information booths related to construction activity.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field (required).
- 5+ years of communications experience with a record of executing strategies and managing multiple projects in fast-paced environments.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Effective collaborator across technical and business teams; builds credibility and robust internal networks.
- Familiarity with natural gas industry terminology or the ability to learn quickly; experience with web content management systems or similar databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read, interpret, utilize, and discuss technical documents and maps; experience within a matrixed organization.
- Communications generalist and utility player who can flex to team and organizational needs; creative and detail-oriented self-starter.
- Performs with poise under tight deadlines and shifting priorities; excellent project and time management skills.
Compensation, Benefits, and Location
- Compensation: $65,380–$98,070 USD annually (Minnesota good-faith range; final compensation reflects factors such as skills, experience, training, certifications, and organizational needs).
- Location: Minneapolis, MN (55402). Employment Type: Full-time.
