Role Summary
The Agribusiness Development Coordinator serves as a connector, advocate, and program manager for the county’s agricultural sector. You will support business planning, market access, and diversification; administer and market the Cecil Grown program; organize events and outreach; maintain accurate CRM records; coordinate incentives and grants; and align agricultural priorities with county initiatives across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as primary point of contact for agribusinesses; assist with permitting, licensing, financing, and regulatory navigation.
- Provide training and technical assistance on business planning, marketing, and resource identification for farms and ag-related ventures.
- Connect producers with retail and wholesale markets, restaurants, institutions, and new sales opportunities.
- Support diversification strategies, including value-added products, direct-to-consumer channels, agritourism, and renewable energy initiatives.
- Administer and market the Cecil Grown program across branding, publications, directories, events, and social media campaigns.
- Use digital platforms and social media to highlight agribusinesses and promote agricultural programs; organize seasonal and regional events that expand consumer access to local food.
- Maintain accurate producer and partner records in Salesforce (or similar CRM) to track engagement and outcomes.
- Build relationships with farmers, commodity groups, extension services, nonprofits, schools, and local businesses; represent the county at conferences and stakeholder meetings.
- Facilitate workshops and roundtables to connect producers with state and federal programs and share best practices.
- Manage and promote agricultural incentive and grant programs, including the County’s Micro Ag Grant and other local, state, or federal opportunities.
- Track trends, prepare reports, and support marketing and storytelling that highlight agriculture’s impact on Cecil County’s economy and quality of life.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agribusiness, economic development, public administration, natural resources, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in agricultural business support, farm operations, agribusiness development, or community/economic development.
- Valid Class C non-commercial driver’s license.
- Strong relationship-building skills; ability to problem-solve and reduce barriers for agricultural entrepreneurs.
- Program and grant management experience; event planning background a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred); experience with social media and digital marketing.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with periodic physical activity (lifting up to 50 pounds, traversing uneven surfaces, extended standing/sitting). Standard Monday–Friday business hours with occasional alternate hours as needed. Six-month probationary period. Telework may be available in accordance with county policy. Pre-employment processes may include medical history review, drug testing, background investigation, driving history, and verification of training/experience.
Compensation, Benefits, And Location
• Job type: Full-time | Location: Elkton, MD | Pay: USD $32.00–$39.42 per hour
