Role Summary
Reporting to a Cardiovascular Account Director, the Key Account Manager assesses each assigned account’s environment and executes strategic plans to support portfolio performance and brand objectives. The role collaborates across Amgen’s matrix (sales, access, medical, marketing, and partnership teams) to drive formulary adoption, coordinate pull-through, and deliver compliant clinical and value communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning for key hospital and clinic systems; maintain comprehensive account profiles, needs assessments, and action plans.
- Build relationships with decision-makers (Cardiology, Lipidology, Pharmacy, P&T, Quality, Finance) to support access and appropriate utilization.
- Present approved clinical and value materials; arrange compliant promotional programs and hospital initiatives with matrix teams.
- Drive formulary adoption in targeted accounts; coordinate pull-through with Sales, Access, Nurse Educators, Marketing, and Value-Based Partnership teams.
- Monitor portfolio performance; identify drivers and barriers; organize competitive responses and performance reviews.
- Partner closely with Regional Account Executives, Medical Liaisons, and Reimbursement/Access teams to maintain open access across accounts.
- Provide field intelligence and recommendations to brand, pricing, and GPO teams; lead contract delivery and tracking.
- Leverage approved value tools (e.g., FDAMA 114 where appropriate) to support evidence-based decision-making.
Ideal Profile
- Minimum: Doctorate and 2+ years, or Master’s and 4+ years, or Bachelor’s and 6+ years of sales and/or related account management experience.
- Strongly preferred: 3+ years in account management and/or public payer; healthcare sales/marketing experience; advanced degree (e.g., MPH, MBA, PharmD).
- Cardiology exposure (dyslipidemia, heart failure, acute coronary syndromes) and familiarity with community cardiology practice trends.
- Deep knowledge of hospital committee structures, P&T processes, treatment/discharge protocols, DRGs, and reimbursement pathways.
- Reimbursement and managed care expertise, including Medicare/CMS policies, billing/coding, and Local Coverage Determination processes; documented success resolving payer issues with sales teams.
- Leadership without authority; stakeholder mapping and relationship-building across clinical, pharmacy, quality, and finance functions.
- Ability to analyze clinical, economic, and operational data; navigate clinic reimbursement; and communicate complex concepts clearly.
- Thrives in fast-paced settings with multiple priorities; collaborative and independent working styles; broad computer proficiency.
Compensation, Benefits, And Location
Base salary range: $163,193–$194,558 USD. Territory covers Central Texas, with primary focus on San Antonio, Austin, and surrounding areas; travel required across assigned accounts. Flexible work models may be available per company policy and role requirements.
