Amarillo College is hiring a Development Officer to strengthen the Amarillo College Foundation’s major gifts and planned giving strategy. Based in Amarillo, TX, this full-time role manages a donor portfolio, cultivates individual and institutional supporters, and stewards long-term relationships aligned with the College’s mission. Candidates with fundraising experience—or transferable skills from sales or marketing—will find meaningful impact and cross-campus visibility in this role.

Role Summary

The Development Officer engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors to support Amarillo College and the Amarillo College Foundation. In close collaboration with Institutional Advancement and Foundation leadership, this role designs and executes giving campaigns, manages a major-gifts and planned-giving portfolio, and deepens relationships with alumni, donors, professional advisors, trustees, volunteers, and community stakeholders. Responsibilities span prospect identification, proposal development, events, and ongoing stewardship to meet long-term advancement goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support comprehensive fundraising initiatives: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and special projects aligned to strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate on campaign design, implementation, and evaluation (e.g., year-end giving, major-gift initiatives, planned giving programs).
  • Expand planned giving, including outreach to attorneys, financial planners, and professional advisors in partnership with Foundation leadership.
  • Represent the Foundation at College, community, and regional forums to cultivate donors and community partners.
  • Provide regular updates to the Foundation Board of Directors on donor engagement and fundraising progress.
  • Work cross-functionally with Advancement and Foundation staff, faculty, and College leadership to coordinate strategy and stewardship.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects; engage trustees and key volunteers as appropriate.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events and donor recognition activities to strengthen visibility and engagement.
  • Develop high-quality proposals, case statements, letters of inquiry, and related correspondence for private foundations and corporate prospects.
  • Execute and manage campaign vision while maintaining accurate donor records and progress reports in alignment with policy and confidentiality standards.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience: Donor cultivation, solicitation, or stewardship in a nonprofit setting—or strong, transferable skills from sales or marketing. The role calls for a relationship-driven professional who can balance strategy with execution.

  • Fundraising expertise across annual giving, major gifts, and planned giving, with sound ethics and confidentiality.
  • Grant and proposal development; ability to articulate compelling cases for support to foundations and corporations.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles (wills, trusts, bequests, charitable gift annuities) and donor stewardship best practices.
  • Strong communication and public-speaking skills; credibility with donors, faculty, board members, and community leaders.
  • Organized, data-informed approach to managing portfolios, campaigns, and events; proficiency with CRM and Microsoft Office; ability to learn new platforms quickly.
  • Collaborative and independent work styles; strategic thinking; professionalism, tact, and integrity in all interactions.

Compensation, Location, And Work Environment

Salary range: $51,501–$77,251 USD (Pay Grade 13). Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade; final salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience, and internal comparisons. Location: Amarillo, TX. Job type: Full-time.

Physical demands include travel between offices/buildings and the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull items for donor events as needed. The role operates in a professional office environment with standard equipment.
